Named after the poet al-Mutanabbi, it has long been Iraq’s best-known book market, where writers and readers gather every Friday morning.
It was bombed in 2007 and rebuilt; it ends at the Shabandar café and al-Mutanabbi’s statue on the Tigris, beside the Qishla.
